Dr. Umar Ahmad

Founder & Chief Executive Officer

Dr. Umar Ahmad is a distinguished computational genomicist with expertise in cancer genetics and bioinformatics. He currently serves as the Head of the Anatomy Department at Bauchi State University, Nigeria. Dr. Ahmad earned his PhD in Genetics & Genomics, and his research focuses on the regulatory pathways that drive tumor recurrence and progression, particularly in bladder cancer. With a proven track record in managing large-scale genomic datasets, Dr. Ahmad has extensive experience in developing bioinformatics tools, including R/Bioconductor packages, and is adept in analyzing high-throughput sequencing data such as RNA-Seq, scRNA-Seq, and WGS. His research has contributed to numerous high-impact publications. In 2020, Dr. Ahmad founded BioSeq, a company that provides expert bioinformatics services, driving innovation and discovery through the analysis and interpretation of omics data. He is also a passionate advocate for Open Science, founding the Open Science Community Nigeria (OSCN), and actively collaborates with AfricArXiv to promote open access, transparency, and collaboration in scientific research across Africa.
